2012 Preview
UncategorizedPublished March 5, 2012 at 10:08 pm No CommentsRight so its almost that time of the year again! Sorry about the long silence over the winter we have had a few technical issues with the website!
lets kick things of with a video reminder from the 1st round of 2012, thanks to Tyre Wall!
2012 Will see me once again racing in the Toyota Mr2 Championship, hopefully closer to the front!
My winter sadly didn’t consist of much actual driving, but when I was out in the car it was AWESOME!!
Mallory park on boxing day was a pretty major highlight, racing in front of a crowd of approx 2500 people and winning my class in race 1 was really quite good.
My Donnington track day, with Malcolm Edeson giving me a lot of driving tips, I got a time that would have put me 4th on the grid in the race last year (which was a lot warmer and in the middle of the summer!) so that felt particularly satisfying, almost as satisfying as continuing after these slides Malcolm posted on youtube.
What was even more promising from this track day was that I was actually well over the MR2 championship weight limit, this was due to noise restrictions on the track and having to change my exhaust to one quite a lot heavier. so I should guess that would find a little bit more time. I’m not saying the other exhaust would have put me on a equivalent time for pole but it might have been the difference between inside and outside of row 2. Lets wait and see what happens when we get to Donnington in the summer.
Also during the winter we were obviously very hard at work in the garage working on the car updating in for a couple of regs and we even upgraded the clutch and the springs so we are at a similar level to those on the front of the grid.
Onto the Silverstone preview then! Silverstone last year was one of my best qualifying sessions of the year and was my 1st top 10 qualifying result. Sadly the same can’t be said for the races wet track with very low treaded tyres for race 1 holding me back and then a 1st corner collision in race 2 damaging my car leading to a DNF. Hopefully we won’t be saying the same on the 1st of april!
Currently the plan is to race in the Super GT races on the 31st march, to get a grip with the track and the start of the race again. I want to be able to do this at every track this year but sadly the current budget will on fund 2 Super GT races during the season to accompany the Championship races hopefully some extra funds appear so that I can do them.
So the season is looking fairly promising, I personally can’t wait to get to the track on the 31st March and the 1st April and get this season started. It will be good to see all of the faces from last year and a whole lot of new faces too! along with my friends who are planning on attending my races.
SEE YOU THERE!
